Matter's Matter
Radhinal Indra
October 27, 2017 - November 26, 2017
In the exhibition Matter’s Matter, Radhinal Indra shows a constellation of works that display his extensive research on the connections between the observer (human) and the observed (celestial objects). In his solo exhibition the artist attempts to provide a different perspective on the human desire to have a cosmic connection by examining the relationship between human and celestial objects inspired by a scientific framework.
The main question dealt with in the show: how are the large – the universe and the small – the human body – connected?
Matter doesn’t speak for itself, the artist does that: he offers his narrative. In the exhibition Matter’s Matter, the different works – paintings, installations and videos – are different components that constitute a larger constellation. And the exhibition as a whole forms the total constellation. And as such, the exhibition comes to symbolize symmetry: different parts contributing to or joined in as a whole. And symmetry, in turn, can offer us – observers – aesthetic pleasure.

Matter’s Matter

Radhinal Indra

The universe is comprised of us, matter and space. The universe is believed to be at least ten billion light years in diameter and contains a vast number of galaxies; it has been expanding since the Big Bang: approximately 13 billion years ago.

The landing on the moon has been eternalized in motion pictures. Venus has been memorialized. And Mars has been glorified. Connections are made to make relations between disparate points seemingly apparent. However, paradigms can shift. New stories are written. And old stories whither away. New metaphors are implemented to push imagined frontiers over cliffs – but the universe doesn’t care about our not-being-at-home in the universe.

Radhinal Indra shows a constellation of works that display his extensive research on the connections between the observer (human and her/his bodily senses) and the observed (celestial bodies). Indra provides a different perspective on our desire to have a cosmic connection by re-examining the relationships between humans and celestial bodies. And for this, he draws inspiration from scientific frameworks.

Matter doesn’t speak for itself, Indra does so by offering his interpretations. The main question he deals with in this solo show is how the large – the universe – and the small – the human body – are connected in ways that can be seen as symmetrical.

MATTER’S MATTER

RUCI Art Space presents Matter’s Matter by Radhinal Indra, curated by Roy Voragen. Matter’s Matter explores the human interest in having a cosmic connection with space objects. The opening reception will be held on 27th October 2017 from 7pm – 11pm, and open daily from 11 am – 7 pm and will run until 26th November 2017

In the exhibition Matter’s Matter, Radhinal Indra shows a constellation of works that displays his extensive research on the connections between the observer (human) and the observed (celestial objects). Indra draws inspiration from a scientific framework to base his exploration of human’s fascination to have a cosmic connection. It is found that we are connected to space elements on a molecular level. The main question being dealt with in the show is: how are the large – the universe and the small – the human body – connected?

Positing this question requires us to face the many unknowns. Curiosity, an open-mind and doubts as tools to imagine what is beyond frontiers of what we have imagined thus far. For Indra, dealing with these fundamental questions is a humbling experience, which is an experience he aims to communicate to the audience of RUCI Art Space.

RUCI’s participation in the art community is to cultivate the rising awareness of art in Indonesia’s evolving diverse culture. RUCI aims to be a platform creator between artists and public by providing a space to experiment, develop, and transform ideas into representative symbols and objects. By realizing its objections, RUCI participates in contributing to our cultural identity that represents today’s generation.
